Notes from our last meeting: Tinnitus

Betty Glazer led an interesting discussion on Tinnitus, how it affects one’s life and how to deal with it.

Pictured here are Christene Rogers, audiologist from UCT,  Andrea Lewis, our Executive Secretary and Betty Glaser.

Tinnitus is a condition that can impact on one’s life and is not easy for non-sufferers to comprehend.  It also can be something that can be very difficult to live with depending on the degree of severity.  Family members may not be able to understand and it could cause strain on a relationship.

If you live on your own, it can be a frightening experience and Betty felt that a support group could be of great assistance to anyone affected.  This would be the first such group in South Africa as far as was known, so if there are any Tinnitus sufferers out there who are interested in joining a group, please let us know.

    Hi Betty and Christene,
Thank you so much for being present at last Friday’s get-together and for making your most interesting presentation, Betty. Although I was not able to attend, I have now been brought up to date by using H2d website to learn more about this debilitating condition. Thanks to for your very informative presentation, which will no doubt be of interest to our members and their friends and family, who are also suffering, to be informed about tinnitus and its affect on sufferers lifestyle. Fondest regards Fred Benning Exco Member H2d.

Glad to read about your comments, Susan Hooks and Trish Kennedy. Concerning Susan hopefully by now you have had an opportunity to attend one of Hear2day’s Table View Chapter meeting.
If not, do consult the meeting schedule at the top right hand corner of this page. Michele Tonks is now our convenor and with the help of the consulting audiologists who are part of our organisation, could direct you to the specialists in this very complex field of hearing impairment.

Trish, we are in the process of spreading or voluntary support organisation throughout SA, but we do need volunteers to get things started. Sadly there has been only limited interest, so how about you two putting up your hands if you are indeed in a position to assist in some way or other. Do please let me know to our address at hello@hear2day co.za
