Miss South Africa does Hear2day proud in Private Presely at Baxter

Simone’ Botha in the role of Natalie Wood in ‘Private Presley’

Simoné started dancing at the tender age of two and a half under Natalie Swanepoel, winning numerous awards at the Cape Town Ballet Eisteddfod, became a member of the Cape Junior Ballet and in Cape Town City Ballet productions Robin Hood, James Bond, Coppelia and Nutcracker.

Simoné was chosen to be part of Cape Town City Ballet’s Apprenticeship Program in 2008 and performed in Sleeping Princess, Les Sylphide, Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet. She completed her Performance Certificate in Dance at the University of Cape Town with Distinction in 2009.

Thereafter she joined iKapa Dance Theatre as an Intern and later became a Company member. During her 3 years with the Company she performed and collaborated in works with many international choreographers such as Gilbert Douglas, Ebrahaim Medell, Maxwell Xolani, Jay Pather, Anthony Missen, Kevin Turner (Company Chameleon), Steps Ensemble and Lulu Sala to name a few. Simoné also started her choreographic career during this time. Her works include Me and I, Life is a game and Checkmate performed at the Baxter Dance Festival, Artscape Schools Festival and iKapa performances.

During 2012 Simoné worked with acclaimed choreographer Adele Blank, Natalie Fisher and Internationally award winning opera singer, Aviva Pelham. She was delighted to join Bovim Ballet last year and performed in Sean Bovim’s Queen at the Ballet and Private Presley. In this upcoming season of Private Presley Simoné will be seen in her first leading role with Bovim Ballet.

Simoné is proud to be Miss Deaf South Africa 2012, being not only an ambassador for her country, but also educating the hearing about the deaf community and breaking the typical stereotypes.

In this regard Simone’, who is a cochlea implantee, has enthusiatically ‘raised her hand’ to assist us at Hear2day SA to revive our Table View Chapter which aims to improve communication  for the hearing impaired, whenever she can find the time to do so! Thank you Simone and well done’!


LATE RELEASE!!!!  BRAVO SIMONE’, WHAT A GREAT PERFORMANCE LAST NIGHT AT THE BAXTER IN BOVIM’S BALLET FINALE’ OF ‘PRIVATE PRESLEY’. Your performance was truly outstanding and beautiful, with music sound being exceptionally good for us Cochlea Implant users, and the group dancing was beautifully and so professionally performed. A wonderful show for us old ‘toppies’ to enjoy and bring back many memories of  Elvis’s musical talents!! From the Hear2day Team.
